Investigative journalism is a type of journalism that is an original, in-depth examination of a topic, usually of great social or political importance, that seeks to reveal the truth, and that holds those in power, whether individuals, organizations, politicians or governments, accountable. The Center for Investigative Reporting’s mission is to engage and empower the public through investigative journalism and storytelling in order to spark action, improve lives and protect democracy. It publishes its multimedia material at Reveal.

The Center for Public Integrity
The Center for Public Integrity is a nonpartisan, nonprofit investigative news organizations whose mission is to reveal abuses of power, corruption and betrayal of public trust by powerful public and private institutions.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists is a global network of more than 190 investigative journalists in more than 65 countries who collaborate on in-depth investigative stories.

The Intercept
The Intercept is dedicated to producing fearless, adversarial journalism, and believe journalism should bring transparency and accountability to powerful governmental and corporate institutions.

Mother Jones
Mother Jones is a nonprofit news organization that conducts independent and investigative reporting in the public interest. It is published by the nonprofit organization Foundation for National Progress.

ProPublica
ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. Its work focuses exclusively on important stories that have “moral force.” Documenting Hate  https://projects.propublica.org/graphics/hatecrimes is a ProPublica Project that collects verifies reports of hate crimes and bias incidents for inclusion in a United States national database for use by journalists, researchers and civil-rights organizations.
